Gold Mite Team
The Winter Season In Review
Before the season began this year, I didn't have a clue about hockey. Sure, I knew that the object was to put the goal in the net and there was off sides, but overall I didn't know anything. However, since my last name is Forsberg, and considering the fact that I am "related" to the best hockey player in the world, and I have watched my kids play for the past six months, I now can consider myself an expert.
I wanted to write a special tribute to our coach, Steve, who did an excellent job. Here are a few comments about our team and our coach.
The Coaches - Especially Coach Steve:
I saw a dedicated coach dedicate a huge amount of time to spend time with my son, Parker, and many other kids, to teach them the game. |
I saw a coach that always kept a positive attitude while still pressing the kids to work hard. |
I saw a coach that would get excited on the sidelines, while still making sure no one child felt isolated. |
I saw assistants help at every practice, take some of the load from Steve, and also dedicate a lot of time. |
I saw a team manager always keep the team well informed about changes in the schedule, ice time, and fund raising efforts. Question: How did team managers stay sane without e-mail and the web? |
The Team:
I saw a team that kept a positive attitude even in the face of an extremely challenging year. |
I saw a team get better every week. |
I saw a team that was always happy after the game. |
I saw a team that always had sweaty heads after practice to show how hard they worked. |
I saw a team that really began to learn the fundamentals of the game. |
I saw a team that didn't know the blue line from the red line, but learned more about the game each week. Note, I am sure there is a red line, but I am not sure if it has any real significance. |
I saw a goalie that spent every minute in the goal and took more shots than a gun fight at OK Corral. |
The kids had fun and all learned a lot about the game, hard work, and fair play. |
