Awesome Day With Parker !

Best Day Catching Ladyfish !

I took my son, Parker, fishing with me this Sunday.  Since he is almost a teenager, let’s just say it took a little motivating to get him up to go fishing.  He wanted to sleep in and I wanted to take him fishing. Fortunately, Dad prevailed and we got on the river a little after sunrise.   The day started off slow since we could not find any redfish.  However, we were able to catch a couple of catfish that put up a respectable fight.  We moved to one of our trout spots and caught 6-7 trout, but this was slow for this area.

We then moved to a different location (farther south from our normal area) and started to drift fish.  We hooked up 3 catfish at once when we went over a school.  That was a lot of fun even though we were not catching catfish. A few minutes later, Parker’s reel went screaming and, just like that, a lady fish came flying out of the water. We managed to bring it in and celebrated !  Since cut lady fish makes great red fish bait, whenever you catch one you feel like you will have a great chance to catch a red fish in the future.  Then Parker noticed about 100 yards away a bunch of birds right on top of the water.  The water was thrashing around.  When we got closer, it looked like the ladyfish were chasing the bait fish at the top of the water.  The birds were flying down trying to catch  the bait fish.

We casted into the area and for the next couple of hours, we followed birds around and caught fish like crazy.  We either the hooked a ladyfish, giant gaftsail catfish, and an occasional trout.

It was an amazing day on the water !
