Wolves Defense Dominates Game !

We started on Friday morning and our boys took the day off of school. Our boys took their excitement on to the field with an amazing defensive effort.  We not only made the plays we should have made, but played the best defense the entire year.

* Trevor pitched 3 innings, faced 10 batters, struck out 4, and allowed only one hit.

* Paul gunned down 2 different players with rocket throws from the catcher position.

  1. *Michael announced his presence in the first inning with a home run to center field that electrified the field.

  2. *Caleb, Peyton, and Kenny all contributed to the offense by going 2-3 each and drove in multiplier runs.

Game #2, Pool Play

A Complete Effort Dominates The Yankees

While we have many fans of the New York Yankees, we wanted to show the visitors from Long Island just what Florida baseball, specifically Avalon Park Wolves baseball, is all about.

  1. *Tyler stated the second inning with another hit and eventually raced around the bases to score.

  2. *David started a deluge of runs in the third inning with a quick walk and stolen base.

  3. *Conner had a rip single into left field to drive in David.

  4. *Caleb hit an inside the park home run on a ball that went under the fence.  The Yankees manager went ballistic and, despite being so close to the Magic Kingdom, uses several colorful words and was subsequently ejected from the game.

  5. *Christian brought his flame thrower and shut down the Yankee offense in the third, fourth, and fifth inning.

  6. *Bradley came in to play second base and made several plays - including a critical second out in the 5th inning to get the lead runner out and shut down their momentum.

  7. *Alec finished the game with a catch in left field and launched the ball home where Paul tagged the runner out.

Game #3, Pool Play

Avalon Park Wolves 12

Orlando Panthers 8

I am not sure who wanted to play this game more - the kids or the parents.  We have played the Orlando Panthers multiple times and we are never sure what team (meaning players) will show up - literally.  We told our boys, before the game, to ignore the fans and kids and play our game.  To the Panthers credit, they came by putting 4 runs on us in the first inning. Our boys kept their composure and we retaliated with 4 runs. In the second inning, we pounded them unmercifully and scored another 7 runs - including a grand slam home run by Michael !

The Panthers tried to get back into the game with a technicality on the line up, but they ended up burning up 15 minutes protesting a walk.

Semi-Final Game

Home Run Ball Propels The Wolves To The Finals !

Let’s just say our boys realized that the game last 6 complete innings.  Not 5 and 1/2 innings.  We played 5 excellent innings with rock solid performances throughout the line up.  In the sixth inning, the wheels came off and the Yanks made a wild effort to tie the game.

* Michael smashed another one over the fences. Several members of the crowd yelled “Get Out !“ once the ball was hit.

  1. *Andrew got his first home run with our Wolves team with a blast to center field.  I have never seen his Dad run so fast to retrieve the ball.

* When Coach Kenny yelled to Paul, “Your not staying over at our hotel unless you get on base !”  Paul quickly took matters into his own hands and smashed one over the fence. He pitched five complete innings and, when the game was tied in the sixth, he got a lead off single and eventually scored the winning run on pass ball.

Wolves Fall Short In Championship Game

Well, let’s just say that it was not our best effort.  We made multiple errors in the field and we could not come up with a combination of hits.  To Central Florida’s credit, they hit the ball into the gaps when needed.   There were two highlights of in the game.

First, Andrew hit another home run and got our crowd going in the 4th inning.  This was another bomb to right center.

In the sixth inning, the Tigers coaches did not approve of a close call.  On a hard hit liner t center field, Kenny threw a rocket to first base and got their runner out.  On an another play where their runner was called out at third, the Tigers manager went crazy at the home umpire.   Their crowd was really upset as well. Obviously, the coach over stepped his bounds.  On the next play, Trevor threw a pitch that was a good six inches over the batters head.  The umpire yelled out “Strike !” and the Tigers fans went crazy.  I saw, from a distance, a tidal wave of parents jumping on the fence.  One man must have run 10 yards at full speed at the fence.  Trevor and our entire team was smiling in amusement.   Their team eventually cooled down and the batter struck out on a few pitches later.

While our team and parents were disappointed in the loss, we realized that we won 4 games over the weekend.  We also had time where the parents and kids alike continued to bond with one another at lunches, dinners, and sleepovers (for the kids).
