Home Sweet Home !

The Avalon Park Wolves came home to the “Friendly Confines” of Timber Creek High School and promptly rewarded the home town fans with a beating of the Seminole Storm.  When scheduling changes caused the cancellation of the Cocoa Beach Tournament, and with the teams fleet of customized RV’s still getting being customized for overnight travel, the Wolves hosted the Seminole Storm in a rare home game.   The Wolves put together a complete game, with every player contributing in multiple ways.  While Wolves were ahead of the game from the  beginning, the Seminole Storm kept on coming with strong pitching and hitting.  However, our boys made plays when necessary including aggressive base running combined with strong fielding in every position.

In his post game interview, Coach Roy Elwell was all smiles from ear to ear. “We had a lot of fun today.  Our boys earned this victory.  We had everyone contribute in every position. “  On Mike and Mike in the morning, Elwell waxed poetically, “We have worked a lot on offense lately and it showed.  I heard the bat crack so many times, it reminded me of a burning campfires in my youth growing up in Long Island.”  When a puzzled host Mike Greenberg reminded Elwell that he lived in Central Florida and campfires, even in the fall, are downright uncomfortable, Elwell just kept going, “Well, Mike, we wanted to make the Storm feel uncomfortable. We came right out and started pounding the ball.  Then on defense, they started running and we picked them off immediately.  That was the end of their running. We did not let up and came out with a victory !“

A complete weekend indeed - a win by the Wolves and the Rays are in the World Series !
