State Championship Highlights

Caleb:

He consistently hit the ball over the weekend.  Better yet, when the opposing team hit a deep fly ball, Caleb just caught it.  I often see him shaking his head after a big catch and saying, “Not tonight, not on this field.”

Kenny:

Our center fielder who is all over the field.  On multiple occasions, he made multiple diving catches throughout the series. In game #1, he must have caught 4-5 hard hit baseballs  which really took the life out of the opposing team.

Peyton:

He just found a way to keep an inning going and provide a crucial hit in many critical games.     He drove in multiple runners throughout the weekend. He also played a solid catcher, infield, and pitcher.

Michael:

When he gets up at the plate, I often see the other coaches quietly say to each other, “Let’s just hope we get past this guy.”  Fortunately for us, Michael  pounded the ball over and over again.  Michael also played a solid short stop and pitched well for us.

Paul:

Just call him “Rubber Arm.”  This boy just eats up innings with solid pitching and catching.  He is the only kid on our team who can throw 150+ pitches between rec ball and travel ball and still ask the coaches, on more than one occasion, if he could pitch some more.

Conner:

Rarely in baseball do you get a chance to see someone make a catch that could easily go on the ESPN highlights.  Conner had such a play.   In the first round game, Conner literally climbed the fence and reached over to catch a foul ball.  Even though the ball came out, everyone at the park cheered him.  Conner just made it look easy !

David:

David played very well at third base for us.  It’s not easy to play third since the ball comes at you very fast and you don’t have a lot of room to move around.  Despite these challenges, David made several rock solid fielding plays to shut down our opponents.

Bradley:

You gain the sense that Bradley knows exactly what do to on each play.  Bradley played at second for us and also stopped multiple line drives.  In a key play in the semi-final game on a hard hit ball, he attacked the lead runner and effectively shut down their momentum.

Andrew:

Andrew pitched very well for us this weekend.  He takes a batter or two to get into the groove, but when he starts going, he pitches consistently low strikes. This keeps his pitch count down and enables our fielders to get quick outs.

Christian:

This young boy has been limited to playing since his arm is healing.  However, Christian made the best of every chance he had.   He stole bases all over the field and enabled us to get extra runs throughout the series.  He also had a smash to the fence in game #3.

Tyler:

This was Tyler’s first series with us. He performed admirably.  He pitched well throughout the series, provided consistent line drives, and with his speed, ran all over the bases.  He also exhibited a positive attitude and got along with every other kids very well.

Trevor:

He turned in one of his better hitting performances throughout the weekend.  He started off with several really hard hit balls in game one that set the tone for his performance throughout the weekend. He also contributed on the mound and in the field with strong, consistent play.

Alec:

Despite missing two days with the flu and, with a rumor that he removed an IV bag from his arm just minutes before game time, Alec provided excellent hitting and fielding in the semi final game.  He lead off multiple innings with bases hits which he promptly stretched into extra bases.
