Thunder First Victory

Thunder Crash The Longwood Longhorns For First Victory !

The Oviedo Thunder won a big game on Tuesday night - the first of the 2008 spring season. A combined effort of sound hitting, strong fielding, and heads up play enabled the Thunder to earn a victory.

“It was great to get come out with a win.  We played a good game and everyone was involved.  While we can get better, I was happy with the overall play,” said Coach Jim in the post game press conference.

The Thunder took control of the game early behind solid pitching and excellent defense.  Once the Thunder came to the plate, the bats came alive with a series of singles combined with heads up base running.  It was small ball  - a theme likely to be repeated this season.

While it was a team effort, on offense Ross hit a laser along the first base line to the fence. Coach Fran sent him racing to third and Coach Jim’s arm resembled a wind mill as he sent Ross home for the first Oviedo home run.   On defense, Kenny made a great play at home by literally preventing the runner from scoring on a slide into home plate.

While the Longhorns tried to mount a comeback, the Thunder kept their composure and even added a few more runs into the 5th evening.

Final score:

Oviedo Thunder             10

Longwood Longhorns     6
